Project Manager in Interior Design
The interior design project manager (PM) is responsible for all aspects from planning, budgeting, and execution for interior design projects in their organization. Usually, the project manager will consult the client throughout the space availability, needs, and style preferences. Then, the interior design project manager will liaise with interior designer in terms of design principles, concepts, and best practices to follow the project plan which created by an interior designer that includes detailed layouts, technical drawings. Project Manager will estimate the project time, cost, materials, and equipment.They need to ensure their plans follow the related authority codes and requirements, and they will prepare agreements for clients’ approval. Once approved, the project manager coordinates with other project leaders like architect lead and interior designer lead and other related project team members to implement the plan. After confirmation of all technical parts and drawings, the project manager will negotiate construction fees with contractors and subcontractors, procuring materials, maintaining required documentation, and setting and communicating deadlines for key deliverables. Project manager always monitors closely on progress for all aspects of the project and ensure efficient, accurate, and cost-effective implementation of the project plan. Throughout the project on-going period, they regularly communicate with the client, providing regular status updates and handling any questions or changes throughout the chat group, which include client and interior designer and related parties.
Many owners, especially for home, they will take the risk to reduce the renovation costing by managing themselves. As owner might not familiar with the details drawing or the material used for each particular parts, they will easily get trick by contractors and contractors will chargeback items-per-items and in the end, will have a huge variable order or additional cost.
Therefore, it is important to have project manager throughout the whole ongoing project to avoid any miscommunication in between client, designer, and contractor as all this will increase the project costing and even affect the timeline.
